Ulrich scan of a virus Rotavirus gastroenteritis in a major cause of morbidity worldwide and of mortality in low and middle income countries. Considering that rotavirus disease is either transmitted by direct contact or water borne, good domestic and personal hygiene is the standard approach for disrupting the faecal-oral transmission route of this pathogen. Treatment is usually by oral re-hydration.

Recent introduction of rotavirus vaccination and their universal application have significantly decreased  the number of cases of rotavirus associated diarrhea and also mortality. However, the vaccines are proving less effective in tropical areas.
